Advantages and Disadvantages of organic farming

Organic farming-

Agricultural system that uses ecologically based pest controls and biological fertilizers derived largely from animal and plant wastes and nitrogen -fixing cover crops  .Modern organic farming was developed as a response to the environmental harm caused by the use of chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizers in conventional agriculture , and it has numerous ecological benefits.Compared with conventional agriculture , organic farming uses fewer pesticides ,reduces soil erosion , decreases nitrate  leaching into groundwater and surface water , and recycles animal wastes back into the farm .

 what is organic  farming?

 Organic farming is a system of  agriculture that uses natural and biodegradable inputs while deliberately avoiding the use of synthetic fertilizers.

 Disadvantages and Advantages of Organic Farming

Organic farming is defined as a production system which works with localized conditions to create products that integrate biological, cultural, and mechanical practices which promote biodiversity.

There are several required components which must be included with the farming process for the crops generated to be labeled as organic. Biological controls must be used, including crop rotation and disease management, instead of chemical controls. The agricultural system must have an emphasis on biodiversity placed on the surrounding environment.

Organic farming must also reduce off-farm inputs and external inputs that may affect the growing process. Renewable resources must be used in some way as well, while synthetic fertilizers musts be completely eliminated. When done properly, organic farming is able to maintain the balance of an ecosystem. It uses nature as the model to produce needed items.

There are certain advantages and disadvantages of organic farming which must be considered.

List of the advantages of organic farming-

1) It promotes biodiversity.

2) It reduces farm pollution.

3) Reduces toxic substances in the environment .

4) Safe water.

5) Better tasting food.

6) Better soil.

7) Preservation of culture and agriculture

        Benefits of organic farming

* Improvement of soil biological activity.

* Improvement of physical characteristics of soil.

* Reducing nitrate leaching.

* Increasing and improving wild life habitant.

* Healthy food

* Eco friendly

* Minimum soil degradation

* Micro organisms are safe

* Organic food is more nutrious .

* Soil conservation

Aims of organics farming-

* To maintain the long term fertility of the soil.

*To reduce the input cost.

*To effectively utilize the natural  resources.

*To  avoid all forms of pollution caused by agricultural techniques.

*To provide a quality foodstuff.

Needs of organics farming-

*Drawback of green revolution:

>Rapidely degrading soil fertility status.

 >Increased cost of production

>Increased environmental pollution

>Health hazards

*That 's why , we need organic farming .

Scope of organic farming-

*Scope for bio fertilizer companies.

*Bio-pesticide and other allied agencies.

*Woman in Pakistan agriculture ,can perform the following function as good as men:

*Transplanting of vegetables , rice , and bare root plants.

*Intercultivation of vegetables of removal of weeds and unwanted growth.

Principles of organic farming-

    *There are 4 main principles of organic farming-

     *Organic agriculture is based on

     *The principle of health

      *The principle of ecology

      *The principle of fairness

       *The principle of care

1)Principle of health-

  > Organic Agriculture should sustain and enhance the health of soil ,plant ,animals ,human ,and

planet as one and indivisible.

>  Healthy soils produce healthy crops that foster the health of animals and people.

> Healthy is the wholeness and integrity systems.

2)Principle of ecology-

> Organic Agriculture should be based on living ecological system and cycles, work with them , emulate them and help sustain them.

>This principle roots organic agriculture  within living ecological system.

3|) The principle of fairness-

>Organic farming should build on relationships that ensure fairness with regard to the common environment and life opportunities.

4) The principle of care -

Organic farming should be managed in a precautionary and responsible manner to protect  the health and well-being of current and future generations and the environment.
